The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has a set of course types. All universities have different Course Types to ensure a wholesome learning experience for their students. Here is a list of course types with examples, to help you understand what to expect in the coming few years.
1. Humanities, Social Sciences and Management Courses (HSMC):
Environmental Engineering, Language etc.
2. Basic Sciences Courses (BSC):
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
3. Engineering Science Courses(ESC):
Basic foundation courses studied in the first year of engineering (including Basic Electrical Engineering, Basic Electronics, Elements of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, Workshop and labs)
4. Professional Core Courses(PCC):
Courses studied by students once they enter their chosen specializations starting in the second year of Engineering. Common Examples are Microprocessors & Control Systems (Electronics Engineering), Transmission and Distribution & Power Generation and Economics (Electrical Engineering), Software Engineering & Design and Analysis of Algorithms (Computer Science and Information Technology), Applied Hydraulics & Analysis of Determinate Structures (Civil Engineering) etc.
5. Professional Elective Courses(PEC):
All elective subjects that are related to the chosen specialization of a student.
6. Open Elective Courses(OEC):
All elective subjects that are not restricted to the chosen specialization of a student.
Project work that needs to be completed within the institution or elsewhere without it interfering with regular class work. There are two types of Project work – Mini Project and Main Project.
To be delivered within the institution under the guidance of an internal faculty.
To be completed in a company/institute of recognition.
